That time of the year is creeping upon us when I will soon handover my crown and pride to the incoming board. The quarter saw us opening with compassionate presidential campaigns in the most heated presidential race ever. It was surely not for the faint hearted and after an entertaining and thought provoking night the charming Ndafadzwa Kagande swept our members off their feet and won the bid to be the next me. My shoes are very shiny and pointy so I am excited to see how he will go about filling them. My congratulations go out to him and the incoming executive board:
Vice President elect Lisani Thaka, Secretary elect Yemurai Chizikani, Treasurer elect Michael Chiwere and Public Relations officer elect Steve Nyabasa.
March was very busy for us. The Netone Charty Shield fundraiser on the 9th of March saw us sending a sizable delegate to Shabani where our members had a pleasant and fruitful time with other clubs.
While on the same weekend members visited both Melfort Home for the Elderly and L’arche Children’s Home. It has come to the attention of our new community services director, Yvonne Chimbarami that Melfort inmates are in desperate need of clothing. She has therefore initiated the “Give a Little” drive and is appealing to all members and well-wishers to donate clothing for the inmates.
In March we also celebrated World Rotatract week which saw us commemorating 45 impactful years of Rotaract’s existence.
On the 21st of March, President Tember Banda of the Rotary Club of Harare Central handed over thousands medical books through BookAid International to the College of Health Sciences and eight Nursing schools all over Zimbabwe. At the event, we had the honour of meeting the US ambassador to Zimbabwe, Bruce Wharton and the Dean of Health Sciences, Prof Chidzonga.
The following quarter promises to be a time for strengthening Rotary family ties. Some of the events to look forward to include our club retreat, the Rotary Fun day, the Interrota quiz and the Rotalympics. June will be littered with induction dinners so remember to gety our pockets and outfits ready. We will also be hosting Rotaractors visiting from Swaziland and serving them a slice of centralite, extra special.
As much fun as we are having let us not forget our core business, service above self. In everything we do, this is our ultimate goal. In serving others aim not only to take care of their physical needs (ie food, clothes, shelter) but let us take it up a notch and also target their emotional and mental needs (eg recreational activities and counseling). Healing the world is not only about healing the body but also the mind and the spirit.
So here’s hoping for an enjoyable and productive final quarter. Stay blessed and be a blessing!
